The Playlist Post

I write this sitting in my bed sick with a cold in sweats, fluffy socks, and a zip-up jacket watching friends. The first week of the new school year has finally ended and I have time to breathe for a little. It’s been a stressful, crazy week, and I need a pick me up. I started this Spotify playlist earlier this summer called “Good/Happy Vibes” with all of the songs that put me in a good mood when I need it. Since I’m currently needing some of that, I figure some of you do too. Without further ado, here are some of the songs on my Good/Happy Vibes playlist.

  1. Sister Kate by The Ditty Bops

Besides the fact that this song is from Gray’s Anatomy, my name is Katelyn and I’m a sister. When I listen to this song, I imagine my little sister looking up to me and recognizing my accomplishments and wanting to do as well or better than I have at that point. Obviously, that is not the original intent of the song, but we all have our own interpretations right?!

2. Pretty Girl by Maggie Lindenmann

Girl power songs are my jam. Let’s just start with that. As an intelligent woman working on her Master’s degree, I know what I want in life. I have standards. And trust me when I say this song rings true for me, and there are more to ALL girls than being pretty and if you can’t see that, then we don’t like you anyway.

3. My Girl by Dylan Scott

This song never fails to put a smile on my face. What girl (and guy) doesn’t want their significant other confessing the things they like about them?!

4. Malibu by Miley Cyrus

As a person who battles mental illness, I see this song as a thank you from someone struggling to the person who helped them. I see this as a power, recovery song where the individual finally sees the light and the good in the world or their life.

5. Queens Don’t by RaeLynn

I am a low income, first generation college student. My family isn’t perfect and growing up wasn’t easy. I have had to work for what I have in my life currently and to be where I am, like many others. It has taken me a while to find myself. I’m very picky about who I let into my life now.
