Meals for Spring Time
Warmer weather is slowly coming upon us (hello, spring!) and I couldn’t be more excited! With warmer weather comes cookouts, BBQs, and picnics. The heat that comes with it though is not so exciting for some of our bodies. You need to change the way you eat in the summer because your body needs to regulate its temperature and eating “light” foods such as fruits and vegetables will make you feel better overall than “heavy” ones such as pork and beef. These four meals are full of perfect light ingredients for you to chow down on!
Spring Chicken Salad
Salads are perfect for warmer weather. They are refreshing and since lettuce is nothing but water, it’s also hydrating! My favorite spring or summer salad is full of BBQ chicken, Egg, cucumber chunks or slices, berries, and fruit dressing.
Pizza is my favorite meal (next to burgers according to my roommate) so I couldn’t leave it off this list. Turning it into a taco pizza makes warmer weather approved! You use sour cream in place of pasta (which you can switch out with plain Greek yogurt for a healthier version) and then top with ground turkey, lettuce, chopped tomato, and cheese. Here’s a recipe you can use from Living Well Mom
I love quesadillas, mostly because they are SO EASY to make and I suck at cooking. They are really good finger foods and you can turn it into a warm weather meal by putting some veggies in it instead of meat which will make you feel heavy. I love putting tomatoes, onions, peppers, and squash in mine!
Pasta salads are so good for picnics and gatherings with friends. My pasta salad is actually a little bit different than what you’re thinking and has vegetables in it (shocking I know). I mix baby arugula, cherry tomatoes, and goat cheese in with the pasta and olive oil with lemon for the dressing.
As the warmer weather comes more frequently and finally to stay later, try making “lighter” meals by including more veggies and less meat. It will make you feel more hydrated and cooler meals will help combat the heat. Do you have any good spring or summer meals?!
